POST PRIMARY PROJECT

ABOUT

The National Pilot Project on Teacher Induction (NPPTI) is a national programme dedicated to improving student learning by supporting the effectiveness of teachers. The NPPTI aims to strengthen schools through proven mentoring and professional development programmes, online learning environments, policy advocacy, and essential research. Ongoing research within the project informs development of induction models for schools, and provides up to date information on the changing needs of newly qualified teachers in Ireland.

The project is based in the School of Education, University College Dublin and is delivered in collaboration with the Education Departments in University College, Cork, (UCC) University College Galway (UCG) and the University of Limerick (UL).

Background

The National Pilot Project on Teacher Induction is based on a partnership initiative including the three Teacher Unions (the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland; the Irish National Teachers' Organisation and the Teachers' Union of Ireland), the Department of Education and Science (DES) and the University Education Departments. It is funded under the National Development Plan through the Teacher Education Section of the Department of Education and Science (DES).
